Cracked Brown Sugar Cookies


Units Scale
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup DARK BROWN SUGAR (packed)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp Vanilla
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp cream of tarter
  • sugar


  1. Beat butter until light and fluffy.
  2. Add the sugars. Beat in the egg and vanilla.
  3. Combine the flour and other dry ingredients in a separate bowl.
  4. Gradually mix the dry ingredients in with the creamed mixture.
  5. Roll into 1 inch balls, roll in sugar and bake about 2 inches apart.
  6. (Roll all of the dough into balls and place in the fridge. This produces the perfect cookie plus saves time.)
  7. Bake @350 for 10-12 minutes.


These are so versatile.
-You can use all white sugar for a different flavor. (more traditional sugar cookie)
-You can roll the cookies in cinnamon sugar at the end and bake.
-You can use other flavorings besides vanilla for a different flavor.
Try to use a baking stone to cook these, if you have one. (they ten to spread more on a metal pan)
Keep the dough chilled to prevent spread on either type of pan.
